Local government - Hazard mitigation works business plan
In 2006, Allen + Clarke supported the Whakatane District Council and Environment Bay of Plenty to successfully prepare a business case to Government on a flood mitigation scheme.
We provided assistance to the Councils to coordinate the required engineering reports and update a cost-benefit analysis of several flood mitigation scheme options. We assisted the Councils to assess and prioritise the preferred options to reduce the risk of flooding. Our work also included liaison with relevant Government staff and analysis and discussion with the two Councils about the best approach to take. The final report to Government presented the Councils’ request for assistance to execute additional hazard mitigation works to improve community safety in the Whakatane district.
The business case was successful, with Government providing funding for flood works.
Note: recent Allen + Clarke local government work has included the provision of research, monitoring and evaluation services to councils, assisting a council with the development of a residential clean heating initiative, development of strategic policy and planning documents and bylaw development.
