Literature review and researchAssist Ministry of Education’s ‘Better information to address barriers to learning’ projectAllen & Clarke undertook a literature review and stock-take of current approaches and early identification processes that address barriers to learning for children aged 0 to 8. Hui Taumata land tenure discussion and background papers Allen & Clarke undertook a review of available literature, and met with the Māori Land Tenure Review Working Group to discuss and refine the paper. Multi-agency liquor enforcement research Project management and coordination of one of three research sites for a New Zealand Police sponsored multi-agency study looking at the effectiveness of enforcement approaches on reducing alcohol related harm. Reducing Smoking Initiation Literature Review This literature review supported the Health Sponsorship Council in identifying effective interventions and modifiable risk factors related to smoking initiation. Literature Review and Strategic Plan on youth smoking initiation A review of evidence regarding risk and protective factors for smoking initiation, and development of a national plan for combating the uptake of smoking. Feasibility study for the establishment of Community-based Assessment Centres Allen & Clarke was contracted by a District Health Board to assess whether the use of community-based facilities to manage suspect and worried patients is feasible in the event of a pandemic. Literature review on sport and recreation in Auckland, New Zealand Assistance from Allen & Clarke on the development of a Regional sport and recreation strategy for Auckland. Review of tobacco control policies for their potential application to nutrition policy This review focussed on an assessment of the potential lessons to be learnt from tobacco control efforts over the past 30 or so years - for application to obesity and other diet-related public health policies. Options for the regulation of tobacco products Literature review and development of policy options for the regulation of tobacco products in order to limit tobacco-related harm (2004). Governance of the fire service The Department of Internal Affairs contracted Allen & Clarke to provide two reports to help inform the policy work being undertaken as part of the DIA-led review of New Zealand’s outdated fire service legislation (2004). Review of New Zealand's injury prevention and safety-related law The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) contracted Allen & Clarke to produce a resource which identified and summarised New Zealand's safety-related law (2004). BikeWise Background report for the Health Sponsorship Council identifying best-practice strategies to encourage greater participation in cycling and reduce cycling-related injuries in New Zealand (2004). Tobacco Control Research Strategy Drafting of, and consultation on, a Research Strategy. Then, establishment of an inter-sectoral Steering Group to drive the implementation of that strategy and provision of Secretariat services to that group. Review work on Alcoholism and Drug Addiction Act Assisted the Ministry of Health with a review of the Alcoholism & Drug Addiction Act, including a literature review, analysis of international approaches to the compulsory treatment of people with alcohol and drug problems, and development of policy options.
