Effective Drug Education: Literature Review and Analysis As part of the Government's Action Plan on Alcohol and Illicit Drugs, in 2003 the former Ministry of Youth Affairs commissioned Allen & Clarke to undertake an international and national literature review on drug education for young people, families and communities. The purpose of the literature review was to identify and encourage evidence-based best practice for drug education.
The literature search covered numerous electronic databases, the Internet, resource libraries and bibliographies. The search also involved contact with Mâori and Pacific researchers and research organisations, searching of New Zealand databases, and posting of requests on Internet discussion groups.
The resulting literature review provides a comprehensive and detailed survey of best practice in drug education, along with several recommendations to improve the provision, evaluation and coordination of drug education for young people in New Zealand.
Following the publication of the literature review, Allen & Clarke assisted the Ministry of Youth Development in preparing a discussion document and summarising public submissions on that document.
