At the recent Beehive to Business event, the Honourable Simeon Brown discussed his plans to overcome the challenges facing his portfolios. The discussion included:
- The government’s strategic response to the energy crisis, with the Minister noting that “New Zealand faces one of its biggest challenges in securing a stable energy supply.” The government is reversing previous policies and considering LNG imports to address the shortage.
- Plans to improve transport infrastructure, with a focus on road maintenance and the exploration of tolls and congestion charges to enhance efficiency. The Minister stated, “We’re committed to ensuring our transport networks are both efficient and cost-effective.”
- Reinforcing his approach to local government water infrastructure, allowing councils to establish their own entities for more effective management and investment.
Q&A Session
During the Q&A session, attendees asked questions, including concerns about the future of the Cook Strait crossing and the timeline for implementing offshore renewable energy policies.
